18 1/4 ounces (1 box) chocolate cake mix
(set aside 1 cup of cake mix from package)
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups coarsely chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking pan; set aside.
Set aside second
measure of the cake mix for the filling.
For the crust, in a large mixing bowl
remaining cake mix, butter, and slightly beaten egg.
Stir with a fork until
into prepared pan. With lightly floured hands, press evenly onto the bottom

Meanwhile, for filling, in a medium bowl combine
